Moffett M8 NX2 Forklift Truck – Industrial Design
Form Foundry has been an Industrial Design consultant to Moffett Engineering for over twenty-five years. Moffett is a world leader in the design and manufacture of truck-mounted forklifts and is part of the HIAB Group.
Launched in 2025, the M8 NX2 boasts an impressive maximum lift capacity of 8000 lbs whilst possessing compact dimensions. The M8 NX2 can be carried on most trucks or trailers whilst being able to carry heavy loads across difficult terrain. It features a host of engineering improvements and a subtle yet significant restyling by Form Foundry.
We restyled the vehicle so that the majority of the tooling-intensive parts remained unchanged whilst creating an updated appearance.
We designed the radiator grille treatment to create a rugged appearance without sacrificing ease of manufacture or using complex tooling. This new treatment replaces the previous vehicle’s ‘bolt-on’ panel, which was visually clumsy.
Form Foundry worked closely with the in-house engineering and management team throughout the project. We used both traditional analogue sketching and digital techniques to develop design alternatives quickly. Taking the graphic treatment of the radiator grille as an example, we produced numerous design iterations through sketches before developing the most promising into 3D CAD visuals. We then moved to more detailed 3D CAD to develop the design for prototyping and to create photorealistic visuals and videos for client approval and internal marketing.
